Trauma-Informed &
Decolonized Approaches to Mental Health

Healing does not occur only through cognitive understanding, it also occurs through the body, the nervous system, and the relational environments in which people live and heal.
Integrated Somatics – Level 1 is an 18-hour continuing education certification course designed for clinicians who want to deepen their understanding of trauma-informed, somatic-centered, and culturally responsive mental health care.
Offered through the Embodied Clinician Course Classroom at Points of Origin Counseling Support & Education Center, this training introduces clinicians to an integrated approach that bridges somatic awareness, trauma-informed care, narrative understanding, and relational attunement.
Participants learn how nervous system responses, body cues, and lived experiences shape behavior, identity, and healing, and how clinicians can integrate somatic awareness into therapy, supervision, and case conceptualization.
This course prepares clinicians to practice with greater embodied presence, cultural humility, and clinical attunement while supporting clients in reconnecting with their internal regulation and emotional awareness.
Why Integrated Somatics Matters in Mental Health Practice
Many traditional clinical models focus primarily on cognitive interpretation and behavioral change. While valuable, these approaches often overlook the powerful role of the body and nervous system in trauma, emotional regulation, and identity development.
Somatic-informed therapy recognizes that experiences are stored not only as memories but also as physiological patterns within the nervous system.
By learning to identify and work with these patterns, clinicians can support clients in developing:
- Greater emotional regulation
- Increased body awareness
- Improved trauma recovery outcomes
- Stronger relational safety and secure attachment
- Deeper integration of lived experience
The Integrated Somatics framework helps clinicians expand their therapeutic approach to include both cognitive insight and embodied awareness.
Certification Structure
Integrated Somatics
Level 1 Certification
Includes nine sessions totaling 18 continuing education hours.
The course follows a structured rotation that blends classroom learning with experiential practice.
Experiential Learning Model
Sessions 1–2: Classroom instruction and clinical frameworks
Session 3: Experiential somatic practice session
Sessions 4–5: Applied classroom learning
Session 6: Experiential integration session
Sessions 7–8: Advanced case application and consultation
Session 9: Final experiential integration and clinical reflection
Three experiential sessions allow clinicians to practice somatic awareness, nervous system mapping, and applied clinical integration.
Learning Objectives
Participants who complete this certification will be able to:
Apply Trauma-Informed and Decolonized Mental Health Frameworks: Understand how trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches reshape traditional clinical perspectives and improve therapeutic engagement.
Integrate Somatic Awareness into Clinical Practice: Recognize how nervous system responses, body cues, and physiological regulation influence emotional experiences and behavioral patterns.
Utilize Somatic Case Conceptualization: Apply somatic mapping techniques to understand how body cues connect to behavior, narrative, and relational dynamics within therapy.
Strengthen Secure Attachment Practices: Develop relational attunement and therapeutic pacing strategies that promote safety and trust in clinical relationships.
Integrate Embodied Supervision and Consultation: Use reflective supervision and somatic-informed consultation practices to strengthen clinical decision-making and professional growth.
Experiential Learning Sessions
Three experiential sessions are embedded throughout the certification program.
These sessions allow clinicians to:
- Practice somatic awareness and regulation strategies
- Explore body cues within therapeutic interactions
- Participate in live case consultation
- Integrate trauma-informed pacing techniques
- Strengthen embodied presence in clinical practice
Experiential learning helps clinicians move beyond theory and into embodied clinical skill.
InSupervision Learning Series Integration
Integrated Somatics – Level 1 is offered as part of the InSupervision Learning Series, a professional development framework designed to strengthen clinicians through reflective supervision and embodied learning.
The InSupervision Series supports clinicians in:
- Expanding clinical capacity
- Developing somatic case conceptualization skills
- Mapping body cues to behavior and narrative
- Integrating trauma-informed pacing tools
- Cultivating secure attachment practices in therapy and supervision
This learning environment allows clinicians to develop both skill and confidence in applying somatic-informed practice.
